Convergence occurs when two forces move toward each other
Health and environment converge into a single, interdependent pursuit: making life better. Clean air, clean water, and clean soil affects our health. Improving how we diagnose, treat, and monitor health affects our environment. It’s as simple as that.
Health and sustainability were once understood as compatible but separate sectors—different areas with their own priorities and concerns. Today, research makes clear the connections between environment and health. Human and environmental health are moving toward each other, growing in symbiosis, and demanding technology and innovation that support that movement.
We scout, invest in, and support entrepreneurs who are working at the leading edge of tech in the sustainability and healthcare sectors. Our founders have game-changing products. They leverage their technology and ability to execute into incredible competitive advantage.
As field experts in healthcare, sustainability, and physics, we know the contours of the spaces these companies are disrupting, and we have the skillset to identify which innovations have the potential to move the needle, at scale.
HEALTH SPOTLIGHT:
Biotia leverages genome sequencing-based technology and proprietary AI-powered software to rapidly and accurately identify microorganisms and antimicrobial resistance. Its mission is to fight infectious diseases globally by deploying the leading reference library of microbes.
The health impact of identifying and treating infectious disease swiftly and accurately is huge. When we met Biotia’s cofounders, we saw the tremendous potential of the team’s sequencing platform, and had became convinced that their team could make its vision a reality. We also saw the critical environmental and societal impact their platform can achieve through reducing antibiotic misuse and circumventing future pandemics.
SUSTAINABILITY SPOTLIGHT:
Founded in 2021 by experts in computer vision and machine learning, Ubicept revolutionizes how machines perceive the world by combining next-generation image sensors with advanced computer vision algorithms.
We reached out to Ubicept after seeing their videos, which are incredibly crisp even when taken under the worst conditions, like dim light, fast motion, and high dynamic range. When we met the founders, we were impressed by their field expertise and hyper-focus on customers and scale. Their technology has huge potential application in autonomous vehicles, which have the power to radically reduce transportation emissions.
